What’s your full name? |
(Fabulous) Daniel Eugene Gould | Mary Claire Fitzpatrick |
| Where did you grow up? | Chicago/Deerfield, IL | Milwaukee, Wisconsin |
| Where do you work? | The National Black MBA Association | DePaul University |
| Where did/do you go to school? | The University of Iowa for my undergraduate degree, DePaul University for graduate school | Miami University for undergrad, DePaul University for graduate school . High school was good ol’ Divine Savior Holy Angels. |
| How did you two meet? | We met in graduate school. Claire sat in the front of the class and answered questions while I sat in the back, making snide comments about the educational system. | We met at DePaul. Technically, we were in the same class during our first quarter of grad school – but we were never properly introduced. A year later, we finally got acquainted over beers at Kincaid’s, a DePaul bar in Lincoln Park. We became friends immediately – which then led to dating about 4 months later. |
| In your opinion, what is the greatest invention of the 20th century? Explain in 3 sentences or less. | Claire tells me this is actually not a question of opinion, but rather looking for a factual answer. This makes the answer penicillin. If you ask me however, I’d turn to William Kellogg’s sanitarium and the advent of modern breakfast cereal. | Easy, antibiotics. No other invention had such a far-reaching, universal sociological effect. Society advanced tenfold in every area after humankind no longer had to worry about dying from an infected paper cut or a bad case of strep throat. |
| Describe a favorite family vacation from your childhood. | There were many excellent Gould family trips, but I particularly remember a trip to Boston. We visited some excellent museums, the New England Aquarium and took a whale watching excursion. | Hm. We went on some good ones. I’d have to say that one of the most memorable for me was when we went to San Diego, when I was in second grade. I remember going for walks on the beach and the sand was flecked with gold. We went to Sea World. I saw the Pacific. There was a tree in front of our hotel that looked like a stalk of broccoli, which I, not so creatively, nicknamed The Broccoli Tree. What’s not for a kid to like? |
| What is something that you cook that could win awards? | I already would like to brag that my chili is award-winning. It’s up again for contesting in a chili cook-off in November. | My chocolate Irish stout cupcakes. Hands down the richest, moistest, deep-dark chocolately goodness you’ll ever taste. I make ‘em every year for St. Patrick’s Day. |

White – The Once and Future King Smell one smell: pine forest Eat one dish: corned beef sandwich with chopped liver Watch one film: If I can pick a trilogy, it’s the Lord of the Rings, if I have to pick an individual movie, it’ll be the Return of the King |
Album: Pink Floyd – The Wall Art: Michelangelo – Sistine Chapel ceiling Book: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Smell: a pine forest Dish: pizza margharita, Film: Groundhog Day (thematically appropriate for watching and re-watching, I think) |
